the nape of neck

Issa 1820

David's translation and comment.
"Heaven's River" refers to the Milky Way. In my first translation I read bon no kubo literally as the recess of a tray, but Sakuo Nakamura alerted me to the fact that Issa is using the expression colloquially to mean, "nape of the neck."

Sakuo san, it gives me great pleasure visiting your work. You asked on my blog what language I use with the English - it is the language of my country: Scotland. The word Zen Speug means, in my language: Zen Sparrow.I did not practise Zen but have been interested in all types of Buddhism for many years

Thank you John san for your reply on your language and Zen talk.
Scotland language is very similar to English.
We love very much the folk song of your country. In our mind there deeply remain the melancoly melody of Scotland.
Zen is true mystelious thinking that I couldn't explan with my mouth.
