From the year end to New Year’s days, for three weeks Issa stayed in Sairin-Ji
Temple, and enjoyed haiku meeting with good friends.

At Sairinji Temple, there's a monument with a haiku inscription:
「炎天に来し お遍路に 塩乞はれ」
"I was asked for salt by a pilgrim who has been walking under this terribly burning sun"
It was originally written by Hojo Okada.
The momument was erected by the haiku collective "Izayoi-kai" in 1973.
